Marauders win streak snapped despite career-high 21 points from Macy Williams

MARSHALL, MN – The University of Mary women's basketball team had their four-game win streak snapped with a 73-58 loss at Southwest Minnesota State University. Freshman Macy Williams led the Marauders, one of the hottest teams in the Northern Sun with six wins in eight games, with a career-high 21 points on a night UMary struggled to score.

Williams seemingly couldn't miss outside, knocking down five treys in seven attempts from behind the arc. The rest of UMary was a combined 3-for-15 on 3-pointers. Overall Williams finished 7-of-13 from the field and made both free throw attempts.

Gabbie Bohl posted her second straight double double. One of the leading scorers in the NSIC, the sophomore forward posted 17 points and ten rebounds while tying her season-high for blocks with four. She made 8-of-15 field goals. One of the nation's leaders in free throws attempts, Bohl converted her only free throw attempt of the game.

Cassie Askvig hit two treys and scored 12 points for the Marauders.

Caleigh Rodning led SMSU with 22 points and added seven rebounds. Sadie Stelter added 19 points and Meleah Reinhart 16. Abuk Akol had 11 rebounds, seven blocks and six points.

Overall UMary shot 36.8 percent from the field and went 8-for-10 at the free throw line. The Marauders went to the line 31 times – making 28 – in a win at the University of Sioux Falls the previous night and averaged 24 attempts over their six previous games. The ten free throws was the second-fewest UMary has attempted this season.

SMSU scored first and never trailed in the game, hitting 42.9 percent of its shots and making 15-of-16 free throws. The Mustangs held a 40-34 edge in rebounding and committed just 11 turnovers to 17 for the Marauders. SMSU turned its advantage in miscues to a 28-5 advantage in points of turnovers. The Mustangs also outscored the Marauders 42-20 in the paint.

The Mustangs started fast, scoring the first seven points of the game. The Marauders responded with seven straight to tie the game. SMSU responded with a 22-4 run to build a double-digit lead. The Marauders eventually closed within 52-47 on a 3-pointer from Dani Williams early in the fourth quarter but the Mustangs regained their scoring touch to deal a blow to the Marauders hopes of finishing in the top four in the NSIC North.

UMary slips to 12-12 overall and 8-10 in the NSIC. Sixth in the NSIC North division, the Marauders are three wins out of third place and two out of fourth with four games remaining. UMary plays third-place St. Cloud State and fourth place Minnesota Duluth on the road next weekend.

SMSU improves to 5-16 and 4-14 on the year.
