MOORHEAD, MN – Challenging one of the top teams in the Northern Sun in the first meet of the season, the University of Mary men finished second at the MSU Moorhead Twilight, just a scant two points behind the host Dragons.
Picked to finish fifth in the NSIC, UMary registered a team score of 49, right behind MSU Moorhead, projected to place second in the Northern Sun. In third place with 78 points was St. Thomas. Eight teams and 78 runners competed in the event.
A hard-fought race by the Marauders, UMary was paced by
Derek Myers. The junior all-conference performer raced through the course in 18:45.8 seconds to take third overall and second among collegiate runners. Myers was just 2.5 seconds behind the top collegiate finisher, Nadir Yusuf of MSU Moorhead.
Three Marauders joined Myers in the top ten.
Tyler Erickson claimed sixth with a clocking of 18:56.1, just ahead of
Kevin Carpenter (19:00.5) in seventh and
Creighton Barrett (19:02.9) in tenth.
Rounding out the team score was Samuel Wilke, who claimed 24
th overall.
The Marauders next compete at the Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 23.
