MANKATO, MN – A record-setting performance in a championship performance by
Luxon Glor highlighted a strong performance by the University of Mary at the 2017 Northern Sun men's indoor track & field championships.
Glor won the 60 meter dash in a school-record time of 6.89 seconds. His NCAA provisional qualifying time of 6.89 seconds broke the Mary mark established by Teddy Gray in 2002.
The conference individual indoor championship was the first for Mary since Aaron Teigen won the long jump in 2014. It was the Marauders first track title since 2009 when Matt Neff won the mile run.
It was the second straight day the Winnipeg, Manitoba, native broke a school record, following up on his efforts while taking third in the long jump.
Not yet finished on the day, Glor placed second in the 200 meter dash with a clocking of 22.16 seconds.
Over the two-day meet, Glor compiled 24 team points, the second-most among all performers. Wayne State's Michael Sandle just edged past Glor with 26 points.
Following up on a school-record performance to place second in the 3,000 meter run on Friday,
Derek Myers turned in a second all-conference mark. The sophomore posted a time of 14:57.65 in the 5,000 meter run to claim third.
Myers earned 14 team points for the Marauders, second on the team behind Glor and 12
th overall among all conference competitors.
Several other Marauders also scored points on the final day.
Kevin Carpenter sailed through the grueling 5,000 meter run in 15:07.75 to place sixth.
Sophomore
Teegan Olson crushed the 800 meter run in 1:56.58 to finish sixth.
In the 60 meter hurdles, freshman
Marceau Jovin raced his way to sixth in 8.41 seconds.
Freshman
Gabriel Wyllie placed seventh in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:24.27.
The Marauders quartet of
Austin Lucero,
Adam Cebulla,
Josh Wulfekuhle and Samuel Wilke ran the 4x400 meter relay in a season-best 3:26.05 to place seventh.
The Mary triple jumpers also had a strong performance, claiming sixth, seventh and eighth overall. Sophomore
Beau Nutting generated his best effort of the season at 14.33 meters to place sixth. Right behind were
Tyrell Rosencranz and
Shenley Allen, posting season-best marks of 14.26 and 14.15 meters respectively.
The Marauders finished fifth overall, improving two slots over last winter. Minnesota State captured the title with 183.5 points, followed by Sioux Falls (154), Wayne State (69), Augustana (67), Mary (65.5), Minnesota Duluth (47), MSU Moorhead (45), Southwest Minnesota State (45), Northern State (39), Concordia-St. Paul (21) and Minot State (3).
