Randall earns All-Northern Sun volleyball recognition

BURNSVILLE, MN – One of the top offensive weapons in the nation, University of Mary senior Lauren Randall was selected to the 2017 All-Northern Sun second team. She is the first Marauders player to earn league volleyball honors in a decade and only the second ever.

An outside hitter from Burnsville, MN, Randall is second in the Northern Sun and 11th in NCAA Division II in kills/set with 4.36. She is also second in the NSIC and 18th in the country with 4.77 points/set.

Her season-high 29 kills in a win over Lake Superior State is the fifth-most kills for an NCAA Division II player in a four-set match. Seven times this season in 25 matches Randall has exploded for 20 or more kills. She has 13 double doubles with at least 10 kills and 10 digs. Only five times this season has she been held to single digits for kills.

Overall, Randall averages 4.36 kills/set and 4.77 points/set, both team-highs, and is third with 2.51 digs/set. She is hitting a career-best .214.

This is the second straight year she has been among the NSIC leaders in kills and points, ranking second in both categories as a junior in 2016 with 4.54 and 4.96, respectively.

With 1,317 career kills entering the final weekend of the season, Randall is the Marauders all-time leader during the school's NCAA era, which began in 2006. Randall and Laci Murtha (1,057 from 2007-10) are the only two UMary players during that stretch to reach 1,000 kills.

Randall joins Tatiani Santos as the only Marauders to earn All-NSIC recognition since the Marauders joined the Northern Sun in 2006. A middle hitter, Santos was an honorable mention selection in 2006 and 2007.

The Marauders close out their 2017 season at home against #1 Concordia-St. Paul at 6 pm on Friday and Minnesota State University on Saturday at 4 pm, Nov. 10-11, in the McDowell Activity Center. Saturday's match is Senior Day for UMary.
