JAMESTOWN, ND – Sophomores
Lauren Rotunda and
Gabbie Bohl each scored 22 points to lead the University of Mary to a 74-69 exhibition win at the University of Jamestown. It was the Marauders preseason opener.
Rotunda hit 9-of-15 shots and had a team-high 13 rebounds. The Fargo, ND, native also added three assists and three steals.
Bohl was a force inside, going to the free throw line 16 times and making 12. The reigning Northern Sun Freshman of the Year also added nine rebounds.
Freshman
Macy Williams added ten points. She made both her 3-point attempts and finished 4-for-5 from the field. Williams chipped in two assists and two steals.
Paige Emmel led the Jimmies with 15 points and Marina Nowak added 14.
The Marauders took control late in the game with a 15-6 run. Trailing 55-52, UMary moved ahead 60-59 on a
Christal Hearn basket with a little more than eight minutes to play. A trey by freshman
Macy Williams gave the Marauders a 67-61 lead. The Jimmies closed within a 67-65 but a Bohl basket pushed the lead up to four. Rotunda scored three more points in the final two minutes and Bohl hit a couple free throws to keep UMary comfortably in front the remainder of the game.
UMary shot 51.1 percent overall and held a 35-25 edge in rebounds but lost the turnover battle 23-15. The Jimmies shot just 45.3 percent.
The Marauders open the regular season against the University of Central Missouri in a neutral site game in Kansas City, MO, on Nov. 10.
