SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –
Faith Kjelstrup claimed her first individual outdoor conference crown and
Tonie-Ann Pandohie placed in three events Saturday, but the University of Mary's string of Northern Sun women's outdoor track & field championships was halted at four.
The Marauders, who placed fourth overall with 89 points, recorded four all-conference honors and registered four NCAA provisional qualifying marks on the final day of the league championships.
Kjelstrup dominated the triple jump on the way to victory, posting the three best marks in the competition. Already on top of the leaderboard as she prepared for her fifth attempt, the All-American exploded for a career-best effort of 12.26 meters. Her final effort of the day became the second-longest leap of her career. With her NCAA provisional qualifying mark, Kjelstrup currently ranks 13
th in the country.
On Friday, Kjelstrup finished sixth in the long jump.
The senior from Glendive, Montana, continued an impressive run in the triple jump for the Marauders. U-Mary has captured the triple jump title six straight years and eight out of ten.
Running for just the second time this outdoor season, sophomore
Alexis Zeis finished second in the 5,000 meter run. The four-time All-American recorded a provisional qualifying time of 17:04.44 for the Marauders second-best finish of the day.
Melanie Rodriguez also claimed a runner-up finish for U-Mary. The junior All-American from Burlington, Ontario, ran the 400 meter dash in 57.16 seconds to place second.
Pandohie placed in the top four in three different events. The All-American from Kingston, Jamaica, posted a provisional qualifying time of 11.99 seconds to claim fourth in the 100 meter dash. She then grabbed third in the 200 meter dash, completing the event in 24.65 seconds. Additionally Pandohie ran on the Marauders 4x100 relay team
U-Mary's 4x100 team placed third overall and missed the provisional qualifying mark by .03 seconds. Pandohie, Kjelstrup,
Julia Hammerschmidt and
Molly McDonald combined to run the event in 47.03 seconds.
The Marauders also just missed all-conference honors in the 4x400 meter relay. The quartet of
Josie Guptill,
Maria Bolibruch,
Melanie Rodriguez and
Julia Hammerschmidt placed third in a time of 3:55.78.
Guptill and Hammerschmidt both scored for the Marauders in the 400 meter hurdles. Guptill placed fourth in 1:04.09 and Hammerschmidt was seventh in 1:07.40.
In addition to a runner up finish in the high jump on Friday and a third place finish in the 4x100 meter relay, McDonald claimed fifth in the 100 meter hurdles. She breezed over the barriers in a provisional qualifying time of 14.15 seconds.
A pair of freshman both placed for the Marauders in the 1,500 meter run.
Jackie Harmon ran a 4:47.51 to place fifth and
Savannah Childers posted a time of 4:51.96 to place seventh.
Running with Zeis in the 5,000 meter run, sophomore
Kaycie Stewart claimed seventh place in a time of 17.59.78.
Earning points in the 400 meter dash was
Chante Spotser, who placed eighth with a clocking of 1:00.15.
