BISMARCK, N.D. – Enjoying the benefits of competing at home for the first time in a year, the University of Mary men's track & field team took full advantage of the familiar situation. The Marauders posted the top collegiate mark in six different events, including the top two marks in both the high jump and the triple jump.
In one of the most dominant performances of the day, senior
Chris Jessop claimed the 3,000 meter run. The Corvallis, Montana, native posted a time of 8:44.26, over 18 seconds faster than teammate and runner-up
Kevin Carpenter's (Colville, Washington) strong time of 9:06.60.
Freshman
Sam Mackedanz (Cold Spring, Minn.) and senior
Joe Berger from Mandan, N.D., placed 1-2 in the high jump. Both Marauders cleared the bar at 2.00 meters but Mackedanz won the event by tiebreaker.
Dustin Rueb, claimed the long jump title by .02 meters. The senior from Beulah, N.D., won the event with a leap of 6.91 meters.
For the second straight week,
William Kaigler won the triple jump. The senior from Tracy, California, covered 14.75 meters in his best effort of the day. Teammate
Tyrell Rosencranz, a freshman from Spearfish, S.D., was second at 13.94 meters.
Derek Myers (Gillette, Wyoming) and
Steven Gordon (Pierre, S.D.) registered the top two times by collegians in the 1,500 meter run. Myers was clocked in 4:07.89 with Gordon checking in at 4:10.19.
Corey Berner was the top collegiate finisher in the 200 meter dash, The sophomore from Las Vegas, Nevada, ate up the track in 21.77 seconds.
Colton Stoltz claimed third among collegians in two events. Competing just across the Missouri River from his home town, the freshman from Mandan, N.D., ran the 100 meter dash in 11.20 seconds and the 200 in 22.24.
Teegan Olson (Minot, N.D.) edged teammate
Nathan Inkman (Oroville, California) for second in the 800 meter run, 1:55.54 to 2:00.78.
The Marauders next compete in three different meets in California on April 14-16 and at the Blue Hawk Games in Dickinson, N.D., on April 16.
