GREELEY, Colo. – Competing under the sun for the first time this season, the University of Mary men's and women's track & field team captured three titles at the Tom Benich Invite, hosted by NCAA Division I University of Northern Colorado.
William Kaigler and
Jack Lamb both earned titles for the men's squad while Tonie-Ann Pandohie posted a victory in a provisional qualifying time for the women's squad.
In addition to UNC, the Marauders competed against NCAA Division I schools University of Colorado and the University of Wyoming while also facing fellow NCAA Division II member Black Hills State University.
Named U-Mary's NSIC Spring Field Athlete to Watch earlier in the week, Kaigler won the triple jump with an effort of 47' ¼". Headlined by the senior from Tracy, California, the Marauders claimed first, second and seventh in the triple jump.
Tyrell Rosencranz was the runner-up.
Kaigler also placed third in the long jump.
A native of Sedalia, California, Lamb placed first in the high jump, an event also dominated by U-Mary. The freshman cleared the bar at 6' 4.75" to win his first outdoor competition for the Marauders.
The Marauders claimed places 1-2-3-5-6 in high jump.
Dustin Rueb took second with
Sam Mackedanz in third.
Another outstanding effort was recorded by
Steven Gordon. The junior from Pierre, S.D., placed second in the 1,500 meter run with a clocking of 4:04.53.
An All-American from Kingston, Jamaica, Pandohie won the 100 meter hurdles in a national provisional qualifying time of 14.04 seconds.
Claiming three top ten finishes, senior Faith Kjelstrup recorded her best effort of the day in the triple jump. The senior from All-American from Glendive, Mont., placed second with a leap of 37' 10.75". She was also fourth in the 100 meter dash and 10
th in the 200.
Fellow senior Molly McDonald had a pair of top three finishes. She placed third in the high jump with a leap of 5' 5.25". The Lakewood, Colo., native also was third in the 100 meter hurdles with a clocking of 14.55 seconds.
Julia Hammerschmidt also snared a third place finish as the freshman from Hinrichshagen, Germany blazed through the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 62.58 seconds.
The Marauders next compete at home, hosting the Al Bortke Open on Saturday, April 9, at MDU Resources Community Bowl.
