BILLINGS, MT – In their final race before the championship season starts, the University of Mary men's cross country squad posted a strong performance at the Yellowjacket Open. The Marauders placed two runners in the top seven and finished runner-up to nationally ranked Black Hills State University at Riverfront Park in Billings, MT.
With five runners in the top 20 overall, the Marauders posted 59 points. Black Hills State, ranked 14
th in the country, registered 30 points to win the event. Host MSU Billings claimed third with 65 points, followed by Rocky Mountain College (83) and Montana Western (144).
For the second straight meet,
Derek Myers paced the Marauders efforts. The sophomore from Gillette, WY, placed third overall with a time of 19:44 on the 4-mile course.
Close behind was
Kevin Carpenter. The junior from Colville, WA, claimed seventh with a clocking of 20:04. The team's lone senior,
Steven Gordon (Pierre, SD), was 14
th in 20:21.
Rounding out the Marauders scoring were
Teegan Olson and
Tyler Erickson, finishing 19
th and 20
th, respectively. A sophomore from Minot, ND, Olson crossed the line in 20:41 while Erickson, the junior from Roseau, MN, was one second behind.
Also running for the Marauders were

The Marauders will take a week off before competing at the Northern Sun championships on Oct. 22 in Sioux Falls, SD.
