SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –
Aaron Teigen and
Dustin Rueb paced a strong opening day for University of Mary men's track & field team at the Northern Sun Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The duo both snared third place finishes for Mary, which saw four Marauders place today and four others qualify for six events in the finals on Saturday.
In his final conference meet, Teigen grabbed third place in the long jump with his best effort of the season. The senior from Rugby, N.D., posted a mark of 23-08.0 on both of his final two attempts on the day. He missed the NCAA provisional qualifying mark by .01 meters.
Ranked fourth in the long jump entering the weekend, Teigen is the top-rated triple jumper in the NSIC and will compete for the conference title on Saturday.
Dustin Rueb tied Teigen for the Marauders best finish of the day when he placed third in the high jump. The junior from Beulah, N.D., exceeded his season-best by three inches to tie for third when he cleared 6-08.0.
Jensen Roseboom claimed sixth in the pole vault, clearing 14-05.25 (4.40m). The sophomore from Turah, Mont., cleared the height on his second attempt of the day and just missed his season high by 2".
Travis Gavin earned a point for the Marauders in the discus. The senior from Blaine, Minn., placed eighth with a toss of 158-04.
Several Marauders qualified for the finals on Saturday.

Jordan Washington continued his strong efforts in the 400 meter dash. The senior from Katy, Texas, posted the best mark of the day with a time of 48.94 seconds to claim the top seed. Washington also advances to the finals in the 200 meter dash after finishing fifth in the preliminaries with a time of 21.64 seconds.
Jay Cooper qualified for the finals in two different events. The sophomore from Rapid City, S.D., blew over the 110 meter hurdles in 14.59 seconds to place second in his heat and third overall, earning a spot in the finals. He also took third in the preliminaries of the 400 meter hurdles. His time of 54.82 seconds earned him a place in the finals as he captured the third heat. Cooper owns the top time in the NSIC this season in the 400 hurdles.
Steven Gordon plucked the final spot in the 1,500 meter run when he posted a time of 4:06.60, the 12
th fastest time on day one.
Cory Berner will join Washington in the finals of the 200 meter dash after placing sixth in a time of 21.71 seconds. He just missed the finals in the 100 meter dash, clocking in at 10.81 seconds to miss by .01.
After seven events, the Marauders are ninth with 15.5 points. Minnesota State University leads with 46.5 points, followed by St. Cloud State with 40 points.
Day two of the NSIC outdoor championships begin with field events at 11 a.m. Running events start at 1 p.m.
