BROOKINGS, SD – Facing some of its best competition of the season, the University of Mary women's indoor track & field team picked up two first individual titles, recorded six NCAA provisional qualifying marks and broke one school record at the South Dakota State University Indoor Classic.
Danylle Kurywchak was the collegiate champion is the triple jump and posted two provisional qualifying marks to pace the Marauders efforts at the two-day meet. The junior from Cameron Park, Calif., placed sixth in the long jump on Friday with a provo mark of 18' 5.5". On Saturday Kurywchak sailed 39' 10.75" in the triple jump, a provisional qualifying distance and the best mark by anyone competing for a college.
Alexis Zeis was the other U-Mary champion as she and fellow freshman
Brittany Brownotter dominated the mile run. Zeis paced the field with a clocking of 4:54.14 while Brownotter claimed third in 4:46.90, just .53 seconds out of second. Both times meet the provo standards.
All-American
Brienna Lynch set a school record in the 800 meter run. The Bismarck, N.D., native and reigning NSIC Women's Track Athlete of the Week placed second in the event with a provo time of 2:12.45.
Davina Carr equaled her best mark of the year in the pole vault. The sophomore placed second when she cleared 12' 5.5", a provo qualifying height and the eighth-best distance in the country.
The Marauders had several other top ten finishes at the meet.
Josie Guptill placed fifth in the 600 meter run at 1:35.70. Tonoe Pandohie was sixth in the 60 meter hurdles (8.89).
Kennedy Robbins grabbed eighth in the 3,000 meter run in 10:08.08.
In field events,
Faith Kjelstrup placed ninth in the long jump (5.23 meters).
Jasmyn Garcia was sixth in the triple jump (11.27 meters).
Next up for the Marauders is the BSU Alumni Meet on Feb. 20 in Bemidji, Minn.
