Freshman Key Marauders Track & Field Efforts at Cobber Duals

MOORHEAD, Minn. – It was a tremendous day for University of Mary freshmen at the Cobber Duals. Three newcomers on the men's and women's indoor track & field teams combine to capture five titles in the meet hosted by Concordia College.
 
For the 5th-ranked Marauders women's team, Tonie Pandhohie and Jasmyn Garcia both won a pair of events apiece. Kevin Carpenter captured one of four titles brought home by the men's team.
 
A freshman from Las Vegas, Nev., Garcia had U-Mary's lone NCAA provisional qualifying mark of the day when she captured the long jump with a distance of 18' 3.25". She also claimed the triple jump after sailing 37' 10".
 
Pandohie won both the 60 meter hurdles and the 200 meter dash. The Kingston, Jamaica, native cleared the 60 meter barriers in 9.25 seconds and ran the 200 in 26.04 seconds.
 
Senior All-American Brienna Lynch also was part of two victories. The Bismarck, N.D., native won the 600 meter run in a clocking of 1:35.53. She then teamed with Josie Guptill, Sommer Haugrud and Crystal Hovland to win the 4x400 in 4:00.1.
 
Also claiming a win for the women's team was sophomore Davina Carr in the pole vault. The Nine Mile Falls, Wash., native cleared the bar at 11' 9.75".
 
A freshman from Colville, Wash., Carpenter won the 3,000 meter run. He covered the distance in 8:49.83 to claim one of the top U-Mary men's finishes of the day.
 
Sophomore Jerrod Shaffner placed first in the triple jump, just ahead of teammate William Kaigler. Shaffner won the event with a mark of 13.45 meters, edging Kaigler's top mark of 13.42 meters.
 
Senior Travis Gavin of Blaine, Minn., won the weight throw with a mark of 15.20 meters.
 
In the pole vault, sophomore Jensen Roseboom of Turah, Mont., cleared 4.36 meters to finish atop the leader board.
 
Several other members of the U-Mary men's team also posted strong finishes.
 
Jay Cooper, a sophomore from Rapid City, S.D., placed second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.56 seconds.
 
In the 600 meter run, Bismarck, N.D., freshman Max Hager claimed third with a mark of 1:26.74. Taking third in the long jump was Taren Staudinger, a sophomore from Dickinson, N.D., with a leap of 6.47 meters.
 
The Marauders next compete at the Thundering Herd Classic in Fargo, N.D., on February 6-7.
