Five Provisional Marks Posted by Marauders Over Busy Weekend

Stewart records two of U-Mary's five provo marks

BOZEMAN, Mont. and FARGO, N.D. – It was a busy weekend for the University of Mary men's and women's track & field team as the Marauders competed in two different states on consecutive nights. Kathryn Stewart posted two wins at the Montana State Open on Friday while Chris Jessop earned two top five finishes in at his first outing of the year at the Bison Classic on Saturday.
 
Montana State University Open (Friday, Jan. 16)
In her first competition in six weeks, six-time All-American Kathryn Stewart showed no rust while posting two wins and two NCAA national provisional qualifying times at the Montana State University Open.
 
Racing against NCAA Division I competitors, Stewart captured both the 60 and 200 meter dashes. The senior ran a time of 7.70 seconds in the 60 and covered the 200 in 25.04.
 
The Marauders posted three other provisional marks in their first meet of 2015.
 
Davina Carr captured the pole vault title. Her effort of 11-11.75 is a provo mark.
 
A provo height of 5-5 in the high jump earned Molly McDonald first place.
 
Danylle Kurywchak won the triple jump with a provo distance of 39-5. The junior also placed second in the long jump.
 
U-Mary also captured two other titles. Bri Lynch ran the 800 meters in 2:17.21 for the win. The 4x400 meter relay team comprised of Crystal Hovland, Lynch, Sommer Haugrud and Cassandra Jones won the event with a clocking of 3:52.62.
 
Freshman Corey Berner paced the U-Mary men's efforts with third place finishes in the 60 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. The Las Vegas, Nev., native was timed in 7.07 seconds in the 60 and 22.69 seconds in the 200.
 
Jay Cooper had the best finish of the night, placing second in the 60 meter hurdles. The sophomore cleared the barriers in 8.64 seconds. Right behind in fourth place was fellow second-year hurdler Hwang Lee with a time of 9.13.
 
Berner. Cooper, Cebulla and Hager combined to place fourth in the 4x400 meter relay, clocking in at 3:29.98.
 
BISON CLASSIC (Saturday, Jan. 17)
Headlining the U-Mary women's efforts at the Bison Classic was Tonie Pandohie. The freshman from Kingston, Jamaica, picked up the Marauders lone win of the day when she breezed over the 60 meter hurdles in 9.19 seconds. She also placed 10th in the 200 meter dash.
 
Fresh off placing 21st and earning All-American honors at the NCAA women's cross country championships, freshman Alexis Zeis claimed third in the one mile run, posting a time of 5:03.83. Fellow freshman Brittany Brownotter took seventh in the mile at 5:12.61 in her first collegiate competition.
 
After missing the cross country season with injury, Chris Jessop competed for the first time this season and twice finished in the top five.
 
The junior from Corvallis, Mont., placed fourth in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:53.77. Jessop placed fifth in the mile run, crossing the finish line in 4:26.12. All the runners who finished ahead of Jessop have or are competing for NCAA Division I programs.
 
William Kaigler turned in another top finish for U-Mary. The junior claimed fourth in the triple jump after sailing 44-04.
 
The Marauders next compete at South Dakota State in Brookings, S.D., on Jan. 24.
