Kyal Williams was named to the 2013 Daktronics Baseball All-Central Region second team as a utility player/pitcher. Williams becomes the Marauders first all-region selection since Mike Feldman in 2008.
The Marauders top starting pitcher, Williams posted a record of 3-3 with a 3.71 earned run average and a WHIP of 1.17. The native of Adelaide, South Australia, appeared in 12 games and started eight, throwing four complete games with one shutout. In 60.1 innings he struck out 46 batters, walked just 12 and allowed 59 hits. He led U-Mary in ERA, complete games, wins, innings and strikeouts and was 97
th in the NCAA in walks/nine innings (1.78). Williams was 14
th in the Northern Sun in strikeouts and 17
th in ERA.
When he wasn't pitching Williams was manning the infield corners for the Marauders, making 12 starts at first base and nine starts at third base. Also seeing time at designated hitter, Williams tied for the team lead in home runs with six. He hit .343 with a .421 on base percentage and a .545 slugging percentage. Williams drove in 17 runs, scored 12, and added two doubles.
Sure-handed in the field, Williams made just one error in 146 chances for a .993 fielding percentage.
The Marauders finished the season 17-21-1, winning eight more games than a year ago despite playing 11 fewer games.
The 2013 Daktronics NCAA Division II Baseball All-Central Region First and Second Teams are voted upon by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from the Central Region of NCAA Division II. The Central Region consists of 41 baseball teams from the Northern Sun (15 teams), Mid-America (15 teams) and Great American (11 teams) conferences. In all, 17 teams were represented led by 16 from the NSIC, 10 from the MIAA and seven from the GAC.
