Familiar Faces Edwards, Miesbauer Round Out Marauders Football Coaching Staff

Bismarck, ND – University of Mary head football coach Myron Schulz found two familiar faces to round out the Marauders coaching staff for 2013. Scott Edwards returns to U-Mary as offensive coordinator and Chuck Miesbauer advances from graduate assistant to full-time secondary coach and special teams coordinator.

For Edwards, this is his second stint as the Marauders offensive coordinator. He initially ran the Marauders offense from 1998-2001, including the first three seasons Schulz was the U-Mary head coach (1999-2001).

Edwards returns to the Marauders after six seasons as the head football coach at Bret Harte High School in Angels Camp, CA, where he also taught physical education.

“With Scott coming back to U-Mary everything old is new again,” said Schulz. “He was our first offensive coordinator when I became head coach and his familiarity with the program and our friendship is making the transition very easy.”

In the first year Schulz and Edwards worked together as head coach and offensive coordinator in 1999, the Marauders set school single season offensive records in rushing yards (2,729), rushing touchdowns (32), total touchdowns (65) and total points (460).

During Edwards' four seasons at U-Mary, the Marauders compiled a record of 35-9, captured three conference titles and advanced to the NAIA playoffs all four seasons. In addition to coordinating the offensive attack he also coached the Marauders offensive line and tight ends.

Edwards began his coaching career at Mendocino College in Ukiah, CA, where he was the defensive coordinator and coached the defensive line and linebackers (1996). The following year he was the defensive line coach at American River College in Sacramento, CA (1997), before coming to U-Mary.

In 2002 Edwards made the jump to NCAA Division II as the special teams coordinator and running backs coach for Northern State University. After one season in Aberdeen, SD, he returned to his home state of California as the offensive line coach and special teams coordinator at Sacramento City College from 2003-05.

An offensive lineman in college at American River College, Eastern New Mexico University and California State University, Chico, Edwards would earn a physical education degree from CSU, Chico in 1996 and a Master's degree from U-Mary in 2000.

Miesbauer joined the Marauders coaching staff in 2011 as a graduate assistant. In his first season he worked with the U-Mary defensive backs, primarily the safeties, before coaching the outside linebackers in 2012. In his two seasons at U-Mary he had the opportunity to help coach all-conference cornerbacks Mo Burrough and Arthur Pittman and All-Northern Sun linebackers Mikey Ingemansen and Grant Singer.

“Chuck paid his dues as a graduate assistant for us and earned a spot on our coaching staff,” said Schulz. “He did an exemplary job on any assignments we handed him and has also proven to be a quality recruiter.”

A native of St. Paul, MN, Miesbauer attended perennial prep football power Cretin Durham Hall before playing collegiately at Concordia University-St. Paul. A four-year starter at safety for the Golden Bears, Miesbauer earned several honors and also served as team captain. An All-Northern Sun selection on the field and an NSIC all-academic performer in the classroom, he earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology and psychology from Concordia in 2007. Miesbauer joined the Cretin Durham Hall football coaching staff in 2008 and helped the squad win the 2009 state title.

Miesbauer earned his Master's degree from U-Mary in 2012.

The Marauders begin spring practice on March 22.
