Burnsville, MN – For the third time in four weeks,
Melissa Agnew has earned Northern Sun Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honors after the senior All-American posted tremendous times at the Iowa State Classic.
The nation's leading miler led U-Mary to an easy victory in the Distance Medley Relay with a provisional national qualifying time on the first day of the Iowa State Classic in Ames, IA. The DMR's performance of 11:37.20 leads the nation. Agnew ran the anchor mile in a blazing 4:46.79.
In a meet filled with NCAA Division I runners, the native of Onamia, MN, later placed third in the individual mile with a clocking of 4:45.92. It was her second best effort of the season and an automatic qualifying mark. Thus far Agnew is the only runner to automatically qualify for the NCAA Division II championships in the mile.
A nine-time All-American, Agnew now has garnered eight NSIC weekly honors in her career, including the cross country and outdoor track seasons. She also was named a recipient of the Northern Sun Myles Brand All-Academic Award earlier this winter.
This is the fourth straight week U-Mary has captured the women's track athlete track award. After Agnew won the first two times
Kathryn Stewart won the honor last week.
