Dennis Newell will speak to a national audience at the 2013 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Annual Convention in Orlando, FL. The 2013 USTFCCCA National Women's Indoor Coach of the Year will present a technical symposium for distance coaches on "The Psychology of Coaching Team Sports."
At the premier national conference for track, field and cross country coaches at all levels, Newell is presenting one of just 24 technical symposiums and one of just eight dealing with distance runners. Other presenters include coaches from Notre Dame, Florida State, Louisiana State, Florida and Oklahoma, among others.
Newell directed the Marauders women's cross country team to four NCAA championship appearances (2009-12) and was prompted to head men's and women's cross country coach last summer. This fall he coached
Jennifer Agnew to the 2013 NCAA women's cross country individual championship.
Since joining the nationally-ranked Marauders to guide the U-Mary cross country, middle distance and distance athletes in 2006, Newell has coached four NCAA individual/relay championships, 127 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference All-Conference honors, 43 NSIC champions, five NSIC records, 50 NCAA individual Academic All-Americans, 22 NCAA team Academic All-Americans, four NCAA Women's Cross Country Championship Qualifying Teams (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012) and 26 NCAA All-Americans in cross country and track events, ranging from the 800 meters to 10,000 meters.
The 2013 USTFCCCA National Convention runs Dec. 16-19.
