Marauders Continue Climbing Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings

U-Mary Finishes 52nd in Nation in All-Sports Standings

LEARFIELD SPORTS DIRECTORS' CUP FINAL STANDINGS

Cleveland – For the fourth straight year, the University of Mary continues its climb in the national all-sports standings. The Marauders athletic department jumped another five slots to 52nd in the final 2011-12 Learfield Sports Athletic Directors' Cup NCAA Division II final standings.

Since first becoming eligible for NCAA championship play in 2007-08, the Marauders have made incredible jumps in the Directors' Cup standing. Among nearly 300 NCAA Division II schools, U-Mary finished 232 in 2008-09, jumped to 147 in 2009-10 and soared to 57th a year ago.

The Marauders earned points in five different sports. The U-Mary women's cross country team placed fifth in NCAA Division II, the women's outdoor track team finished tenth, the women's indoor track team came in 13th, the wrestling team placed 19th and the women's basketball team qualified for the NCAA tournament.

U-Mary also moved up one slot among Northern Sun schools, finishing fifth among conference members. Augustana placed fourth in the nation, followed by Minnesota State University (21), St. Cloud State University (26) and the University of Minnesota Duluth (45).

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's national finish in up to 14 sports — seven women's and seven men's.
