FINAL RESULTS
Bismarck, ND – A tremendous team performance by the University of Mary lifted the Marauders to fourth place in the 2012 Northern Sun Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Nine different individuals posted points for U-Mary on the second day as the Marauders reached triple digits.
Despite not taking any individual titles, the Marauders rolled up 103 points over the two days and jumped two slots over their finish from a year ago. Minnesota State University won the NSIC title with 212 points, MSU Moorhead claimed second with 179 and Augustana was third at 115. Finishing a distant fifth was the University of Minnesota Duluth with 48 points.
Competing at home in the Community Bowl,
Jesse Bennett and
Jordan Washington both claimed runner-up finishes on Saturday and both competed on U-Mary's second place 4x400 meter relay team.
In one of the most exciting finishes of the day, Bennett was edged by .03 seconds by MSU Moorhead's Clayton Foster in the 1500 meter run. Bennett was timed in 3:53.04 but fell just short to Clayton's record setting performance.
Bennett also claimed third in the 800 at 1:53.99.
Washington claimed second in the 400 meters in a stellar time of 48.04. He would team with Bennett,
Deland Weyrauch and
Chase Dixon to run a time of 3:18.96 in the 4x400 meter relay and take second.
Dixon also had a strong showing in two other events, claiming third in both the 110 meter hurdles and the 400 meter hurdles. He sailed over the 110 meter barriers in 14.82. He was even better in the 400 hurdles, hitting a provisional qualifying time with a mark of 53.56.
Tracy Lide came through strong in two events for the Marauders. The junior from Las Vegas, NV, placed third in the 200 meter dash (21.55) and fourth in the 100 meter dash (10.63).
After placing fourth on Friday in the 10,000 meter run,
Taylor Thompson came back with an eighth place finish in the 5,000 meter run in a time of 15:33.23.
The Marauders also placed in all three field events.
Tad Harman took third in the shot put, firing the sphere 50-8.25. He placed in the hammer throw on Friday.
Ryan Meidinger captured fifth in the discus with a mark of 153-07. In the triple jump, Aaron Tiegan sailed 45-8.50 to claim seventh.
