Damon Smith earned 2011-12 All-NSIC second team honors. The Marauders senior was a force on both ends of the court and ranked among the league leaders in multiple categories.
Smith is the lone player in the Northern Sun in the top eight in points, rebounds, shooting percentage and blocks. The Milwaukee, WI, native averaged 16.5 points and 6.6 rebounds while making 57.8 per cent of his shots from the field. He is fourth in in the NSIC shooting, seventh in scoring and eighth in rebounding.
A top notch defender, Smith leads all NSIC players in blocked shots with 2.08 rejections per game. His biggest block of the game came outside the arc as time expired to preserve a 67-64 win at Concordia-St. Paul.
Smith led the Marauders in scoring 13 times and reached double figures 15 times. He posted three double doubles.
As a junior last season for the Marauders, Smith averaged 6.7 points and 4.0 rebounds after transferring to U-Mary from Ellsworth Community College.
Smith was at his best in two of the Marauders biggest wins of the season. He scored 25 points on 12-of-15 shooting to lead U-Mary to a win over then-#19 and NSIC-leading MSU Moorhead. In a Marauders win over another NSIC-leading team, St. Cloud State, Smith scored 23 points, blocked three shots, and made 9-of-14 shots for the upset.
