Northern Sun Honors Thorson, Wolf and Johnson; 14 Women Earn All-NSIC Honors

Burnsville, MN –On the heels of a dominating women's indoor track and field conference championship performance, the University of Mary earned three major 2012 Northern Sun postseason awards. Mike Thorson was selected the NSIC Women's Coach of the Year, Dakota Wolf earned the NSIC Women's Track Athlete of the Year and Tess Johnson was named the NSIC Newcomer of the Year. Additionally, 14 Marauders earned All-NSIC honors.
 
Thorson received the NSIC women's indoor coaching honor for the fourth time in six seasons after the Marauders ran away with the 2012 conference title. U-Mary compiled 170 points to 103 for second place Augustana. Thorson previously earned women's indoor coach of the year honors in 2007, 2008 and 2011.
 
A junior from Dickinson, ND, Wolf was the high points scorer at the NSIC championships, earning 26 points for the Marauders. The All-American captured first in both the 3,000 meter and the mile run while taking third in the 5,000 meter run. Wolf has the nation's third fastest time in the mile this season.
 
Johnson placed in five different events at the NSIC meet and earned 21 points for U-Mary. The freshman from Henry, SD, was second in the pentathlon and fourth in both the long and triple jump. Johnson also placed seventh in the high jump and eighth in the 800 meter run.
 
Fourteen Marauders combined to earn 16 All-Northern Sun citations as U-Mary repeated as the conference champion. The top three finishers in individual events and the top two relay teams qualify for All-NSIC honors. U-Mary won seven events at the conference championships.
