New Orleans – Following a big week the featured two automatic qualifying times and several provisional clockings, the University of Mary women's indoor track and field squad took a significant jump in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches NCAA Division II National Team Computer Rankings for week #2 released today. Additionally, both the U-Mary men's and women's teams improved in the Central Regional rankings.
The Marauders women's squad jumped eight slots to 12
th in the national ranking, compiling 55.65 points. The first regular season poll released a week ago slotted U-Mary at #20.
In the Central Region team index, the U-Mary women improved to fifth place, three places higher than a last week. The Marauders passed three Northern Sun schools and now trail only Winona State.
The U-Mary men's squad also bumped up one slot in the regional poll. The Marauders are now ranked eighth in the Central Region USTFCCCA team index.
A major boost to the U-Mary women's significant jump in the national polls was the automatic qualifying times
Dakota Wolf and
Melissa Agnew ran in the mile. Wolf set a school record with a time of 4:47.23 and now ranks second in the nation. Right behind is Agnew, who ranks third in the country at 4:47.44.
Additionally,
Nocona Frame reached the provisional qualifying standard in the mile.
Agnew is also nationally ranked in the 800 meter run, completing the circuit in a time of 2:14.61, eighth in the country. Both Agnew and Wolf posted provisional qualifying in the event.
The Marauders also posted two other provisional qualifying times over the weekend.
Janet Johnson ran an 8.32 in the 55 meter hurdles and the 4x400 meter relay team of
Kayla Montgomery,
Megan Jenkins, Brianna Lynch and
Rikki Schmidt clocked a 3:54.96.
The U-Mary men and women next compete at Concordia College on February 4.
