2012 NSIC BASEBALL POLL
Burnsville, MN – Returning All-Northern Sun infielder Steve Pletan and junior right-hander
Kyle Lozensky are the University of Mary's 2012 Northern Sun Players to Watch and the Marauders are projected to finish 12
th in the NSIC Preseason Baseball Coaches' Poll.
A senior from Mandan, ND, Pletan hit .331 last season and posted team-highs with three home runs, 28 RBI and a .462 slugging percentage in his second season starting at second base. Pletan scored 21 runs and hit eight doubles and one triple while posting a .378 on base percentage. For his efforts, he earned second team All-NSIC honors as an infielder. Pletan is the fifth U-Mary player to earn conference accolades and the first since 2009. He is a .316 career hitter and batted .314 as a sophomore.
Lozensky enters his third season in the Marauders starting rotation. The Naples, FL, native posted two wins last season, including a shutout, and pitched four complete games. Lozensky threw 58.1 innings and tied for the team lead in strikeouts with 46.
In his first season as head coach of the Marauders,
Joel Barta takes over a U-Mary squad that finished 10-32 in 2011 and posted a 6-28 mark in Northern Sun play to finish 12
th. Barta joins U-Mary after coaching at Ridgewater (MN) College the past three seasons. In his last two years at Ridgewater the Warriors advanced to the regional tournament but fell just short of advancing to the National Junior College Athletic Association World Series.
The Marauders open the 2012 season with a non-conference doubleheader against St. Cloud State University on February 11 at the Metrodome.
