Wrestling Opener Moved Back to Jan. 15, Marauders to Now Face Two of Nation's Best in a Dual Doubleheader

Bismarck, ND – Due to a schedule change finalized today, the University of Mary wrestling team opens head to head competition with a truly dynamic dual doubleheader on Sunday, January 15. The Marauders now host top-ranked St. Cloud State University and third-ranked Upper Iowa University in back to back matches on Sunday beginning at 12 noon. The pair of duals will be the first of the season for U-Mary and the opening of Northern Sun competition.

Originally set to open the NSIC season on January 14, schedule conflicts necessitated moving the Marauders-Huskies match back one day to Sunday at 12 noon. The Marauders-Peacocks match remains as initially scheduled for 2 PM on Sunday, January 15. The dual doubleheader will be held at U-Mary's McDowell Activity Center.

The Marauders, who continue to receive votes in the in the NCAA Division II wrestling poll released today by the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association, have one wrestler ranked in the nation's top eight. Sophomore Trevor Johnson (Bismarck, ND) is fourth nationally at 141. Junior Brady Anderson, who made two trips to the NCAA championships at 184, was nationally ranked earlier this season.

Both #1 SCSU and #3 UIU have six grapplers ranked in the top eight in the nation. Both ever each have two student-athletes ranked first in their weight classes. Kyle Pedretti (125 pounds) and Trevor Frankilin (133) are the nation leaders for Upper Iowa and Tad Merritt (165) and Jacob Kahnke (285) headline the charts for SCSU.
