BISMARCK, ND – Following the same blueprint as in Friday's home win over Concordia-St. Paul, the University of Mary women's soccer team paired a first half goal from
Dina Polanco with a smothering defense to defeat Winona State University 1-0 on Sunday to complete a Northern Sun weekend sweep.
Taking advantage of a Warriors foul from just outside the penalty area in the 39
th minute, Polanco slammed her free kick attempt off the cross bar and straight down directly behind the goal line for the lone counter of the game.
Polanco also recorded the Marauders lone goal in an identical 1-0 win over the Golden Bears to start a 4-game UMary home stand.
On the season the Team Guatemala midfielder has a team-high seven goals in seven games. Polanco also has an assist for 15 points. She also leads the NSIC in goals, points, and game-winning goals (3).
The Marauders (3-2-2 overall, 2-1-1 NSIC) defense made sure Polanco's goal stood firm, bottling up the Warriors (0-6-0, 0-4-0) attack all game. Led by a back line featuring
Harlee Peltz, UMary didn't allow a single shot on frame in the match and limited Winona State to three total shots.
For the weekend the Marauders limited the Golden Bears and the Warriors to a combined total of 13 shots with two on frame.
UMary finished the game with eight shots, including two on target. Additionally the Marauders generated all six corner kicks attempted in the game.

The Marauders next host the University of Minnesota Duluth on Friday, September 25, in a 3 pm match the MDU Resources Community Bowl. Tickets are available online at
